totally didn’t see this coming: glee on fox8

I always knew FOX8 would end up showing glee, because of that whole deal they’ve got with channel ten, but i honestly didn’t expect them to play it so soon after it finished on ten. Whatever, I know i taped it all already so I already have copies of all the episodes, but I’ll probably watch it on fox8 anyway. Haha.

review: glee

In my experience, people either really love or really hate glee, and personally, I go between really loving it and really hating it several times per episode.

There is so much wrong with the show, it’s like they’re trying ever so hard for it to be ‘inspirational’, and every episode feels like it’s trying to teach you a lesson, and not a good lesson, a really lame done-a-million-times lesson, for example, in the Madonna episode when Finn was all like “I don’t feel anything, because it didn’t mean anything” I had this sudden urge for epic facepalm – and they just made it really lame, like they didn’t make it a subconscious thing, it was like “lets make what were trying to teach you incredibly blaringly obvious”

Or the episode where Black Chick Whose Name I Can’t Remember was a cheerleader and Sue told her she was too fat, and I already knew that the rest of the episode was going to be her dieting too much and she’ll get really sick and then they’ll learn a lesson about how you should be okay with your fat bodies.

I mean, I’m all for trying to teach people lessons, actually, no I’m not, but if you are a tv producer and you really have your heart set on teaching people a lesson, then you could at the very least, make it a little bit less obvious. When I watch tv, I want entertainment, not education. If I was one of those people, I’d be watching Discovery Channel.

But while they’re teaching us stupid lessons, they do actually sing some good songs, well every now and then anyway. I think the quality of the songs has gone down as the series has progressed. I still remember the Pilot of glee (mainly because I watched it about 200 times) and when they sung, especially Don’t Stop Believin, it sort of gave me this really happy feeling, and still does whenever i listen to that song on the album, you can tell they put a lot of effort into that song.

They had the whole voices making up the background music thing going on, and it sounded amazing. But lately all the songs have ended up being just really bad nearly-exact covers of songs.

Still, despite being kind of crap when you listen to the album, and just awful in theory, some of the songs are really fun to watch – like Like A Virgin in the Madonna episode, I watched that heaps of times because I loved it so much.

On the other hand, I’m sick of hearing really dumb songs in the music room that just are awful and serve no purpose to the story.

Not that the story is even that good anymore, to be honest I can’t even remember if it ever was. I’d really hate to imagine how many continuity errors there are, because they just make it up as they go, i swear. Way too often it feels like they changed the storyline specifically so that a certain song would work, just cause they really wanted to sing that particular song.

Despite everything that I hate about Glee, I still love it, and I know i’m going to keep watching it anyway. Because despite seeing everything that is wrong with the show, i’m pathetic and still watch crap shows like this.

glee comes back tomorrow

I’m a little bit of a gleek, so it’s safe to say I’m pretty excited about the return of glee tomorrow night. I thought I had something to say about this, but honestly I can’t really remember. But I’ll probably have some continuity to bitch about after I’ve seen it, hahaha.

Seriously, has anyone noticed how awful the continuity is in that show? I don’t know how many times they chose their songs for sectionals, and by “don’t know” of course I mean, “lost count“.

I’m so impressed by the graphic I made for this post, that you can click on it to get the enlarged version, and it’ll probably make a lovely wallpaper, you can look at it everyday, to remember me by… or something.

tv in 2010: TV Week

i know for a fact i’ve probably missed a lot of shows, i’ve only written about shows that jumped out at me while i flicked through tv week. i feel like there are shows i really like that i havent written about, but i have no clue what they are.

Desperate Housewives: (seven)
Series creator Marc Cherry isn’t mucking around with season six of his hit show. In the first episode, viewers can expect return of a past character, an attempted murder, a new housewife and of course the answer to the big finale question…”
I’m not too impressed with this whole new housewife thing, even though the way the article describes her she could be very amusing – the question is what type of housewife she is, is she like the Black Chick from season 2 that is just there to provide the mystery for this season – or is she there to become a full housewife like Kathrine (in that case, I would guess she’s a sort of replacementnow that Edie is dead). I’m not going to say I hate the idea either way, not until I really know what the character is like, cause I might end up liking her – but I’m not convinced anyone could replace Edie Britt.

Private Practice Update: (seven)
I don’t watch private practice (or Grey’s Anatomy anymore, for that matter) but TV Week points out one major thing that really annoys me about TV in Australia:
while there are several more crossover specials in the works, Seven plans to hold back private practice in order to allow grey’s anatomy to catch up. So prepare for more spoilers”
Things like crossovers work well for the US Networks, but when it gets to australia, where half our shows are fast-tracked, half of them are months behind, and shows that were on the same network in the US are now dispersed between different networks over here, it just sort of … screws it up.

Scrubs: (seven)
now set at med school, JD, Turk, and Dr Cos teach students, including new narrator Lucy and Maya. JD and ELLIOT will appear in a few episodes while the Janitor bows out after just one line”
I have one thing to say about this: I don’t see this working.
Again, I’m not up to date with scrubs (I’m still back in the 3rd Season) but, just no.

Glee: (ten)
Facing off against big contenders Vocal Adrenaline at sectionals, Racheal finds herself irresistibly drawn to the groups leading man.”
More random boring crap to drag out and complicate the whole Racheal & Finn thing. What annoys me most about glee is not anything to do with the story or anything like that, but the way they are structuring seasons, like theyre putting a massive break halfway through the season… can’t they just like… start a new season? I dunno, it just doesn’t make sense to me.
Also, is that a mistake on TV Weeks behalf where it says “at sectionals” because Sectionals is where they were at in the ‘sort of finale’ thing. Maybe.. No I dunno.

Coming this year:
Cougar Town. (seven)
I trust that Courtney Cox can make a good show, d!rt was heaps good, and so I’m really hoping Cougar Town will be too. I really don’t like the whole “cougar” thing, but whatever.

10 things I hate about you. (fox8) I’ve never heard of this show until I saw it in the TV Week special today. Apparently It’s loosely based on the movie of the same name. Honestly, I think it’s going to be awful, and die an early death, but I would like to see how it goes anyway.

The Real Hustle. (nine) I’m actually not excited by this at all… at all. I would just like to ask why on earth does the Chk-Chk-Boom chick actually have a career? yeah, that’s all. Apart from that It’s on channel nine, and as if I’d ever watch that channel. They are all hustlers that will actually go and scam you, and that bloke off underbelly is hosting it. Mm, I’m holding back vomit.

sleuth 101. (abc1) Finally, a show I’m actually, genuinely interested in. Again, I never heard of it until i read it in TV Week, but this looks like it could be fun. Hosted by Cal Wilson, joined by a comedian every week trying to solve a crime. I can see this working because Australian Comedians are actually good. So I will be watching this.

Hey Hey it’s Saturday. (nine) Need I say more? Oh, so I guess I will be watching something on Nine, I stand corrected.

Strictly Speaking. (abc1) It’s got that dude off the chasers, not sure if it will actually be any good though. I might give it a go, depending when they put it on, and if I’m busy. Its not really high on my list of shows.

Australia Smashes Guinness World Records (seven). your… kidding… right? This has been a show before, with a different name. It is going to be boring. I’d rather die than watch this show.

one last note: it’s been a long time since i’ve read tv week, but like.. their tv guide is actually really good, they have proper guides for all the digital channels, like one abc2, 7two etc. (like.. not just a squashed list, it’s as full as all the other freeview channels). It also has a paytv guide that is as good, if not better than the Austar Magazine. The only thing that could make it better is if they could get a monthly version – but that will never happen, because no channels have their shit together enough to plan that far ahead.
